Nokia 9 to Feature Dual 5MP Selfie Cameras, Expected to Launch on January 19

HMD Global’s 2018 flagship the Nokia 9 is expected to be released upcoming January. The phone lately was spotted in an FCC listing revealing some of the specifications of the smartphone. The recent FCC listing revealed that Nokia 9 would be coming up with a 5MP selfie shooter. This turned out to be a huge disappointment as previously a render of the device indicated dual camera sensors at the front.

However, upon investigation, it has been confirmed the front will indeed support a dual camera setup. The Nokia 9 is said to feature a Chicony CKACE16 frontal module as per the FCC documentation. The manufacturer’s website confirmed the module as a dual camera system. The specs page though shows an image of a single camera, but this is because the webpage seemingly featured a wrong image.

The Chicony CKACE16 has an autofocus and a f/2.0 aperture for its 5MP sensor that carries support for 1080p video recording. There is another 5MP sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The spec sheet doesn’t detail other things about the dual camera.

In addition, the Nokia 9 will feature a rear dual camera setup. There is a 12MP +13MP dual rear-facing sensor listed as per FCC listing. This was also confirmed by a new Camera app which shows hidden features of the dual system in Oreo update for Nokia 5. However, the camera setup implementation is still unknown. HMD might go for a secondary telephoto lens or a monochrome sensor like it did with the Nokia 8.

The FCC filing of the Nokia 9 also revealed a 5.5-inch OLED display manufactured by LG that may support 18:9 aspect ratio. The device will be powered by Qualcomm top-line Snapdragon 835 chip. Hopefully, the Nokia 9 won’t be an LG G6 of 2018. While the listing didn’t confirm the RAM size, we do know the Nokia 9 includes UFS 2.1 storage of 128GB and also support microSD card expansion.

The Nokia 9 will run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. A Geekbench listing of the device has revealed the same of a device featuring 6GB RAM and Android Oreo OS. The specs and features point towards a flagship model which will be priced upwards of Rs 50000.

The Nokia 9 will release on January 9 along with a second-gen variant of Nokia 8. Stay tuned for more details which will be revealed as the days closer to the launch.
